2020 Major Award Winners

The four major award recipients from the 2020 season were presented on Finals Weekend – here’s a brief rundown of what each winner has been recognised for

Our First team Award Winners and Grade MVPs were also awarded on Finals Weekend – with the updated list (and photos) visible here

Coach of the Year: Nate Searle

Nate has been involved in the creation and running of the Celebration Lions club. He is involved in coaching from the miniball and Hoops level to the Waitaha Under 19 boys’ team.

Nate has attended and provided coach development courses at all levels and has worked hard to not only upskill himself but others.

Congratulations Nate!

Services to Basketball: Sharon Erwood

Sharon Erwood gives generously of her time to the basketball community. In 2020, it has been specifically with her volunteer work organising, training people, and providing LiveStats for 54 Club games this season (including every single game in the Miles Toyota Men’s Premier League, as well as many other games we ask her to help with, including all four McDonald’s Thomson and Whelan Grand Final games). It’s not just in the CBA where Sharon provides LiveStats, she regularly is called upon for both the NZ and Australian NBL competitions.

Thank you Sharon for being a valuable member of the Canterbury Basketball Community

Administrator of the Year: James Lissaman

Whilst all club administrators have performed admirably this year it is clear to all that James performed above and beyond during the most challenging of seasons to ensure that everyone got to play basketball in meaningful competitions, operating in periods both with and without protocols.

This award is long overdue and one which recognises James in his pivotal role to making a success of the 2020 season for all who enjoy playing the game.

Club of the Year: Pioneer

We want to acknowledge the great work that all clubs have done during a very trying year to keep basketball in such a positive space.

Pioneer have shown great initiative in the past year, particularly in the junior and social-media space (see their facebook banner below as an example of this!), engaging and promoting their community. The Pioneer club had 19 teams compete in our winter club competitions, in addition to the multitude of junior teams they service in their own internal competitions.

Congratulations to the Pioneer club for their hard work and initiative during 2020
