The Hagley College Boys take on Hornby in the Division II Final of the LU Thomson Trophy Competition
#1 Seed Hornby and #3 Hagley will meet for the third time this year, with each team having an identical 7-2 regular season record, and a 1-1 record against each other (Hagley won the first matchup 86-70. Hornby won the second 73-62).
Jimmy Williamson (Head Coach, Hornby High School) puts it very succinctly: “We are super pumped to be competing for the D-Two title this year, but we are definitely not surprised that we’re here. Winning the division was our goal heading into the season, and the boys have put a lot of work in to try and achieve that.
“Coming off a big win in our semi-final (115-49 over RNLS) has given us confidence but we will always take on that underdog attitude. As long as we play a good brand of Hornby basketball, that’s all I can ask for.”

Bridget Fairweather (Head Coach, Hagley College) adds her thoughts ahead of the Grand Final: “This is the first time for our boys’ team in the finals, so is a very big occasion for us. We have a few Year 13s who have worked hard to keep our programme competitive, and continue to grow it.
“This team has a fantastic team culture and have a lot of fun playing together. The players compete in a number of different sports and make each other better on the basketball court.“
Hagley knocked Papanui out of the playoffs 102-68 to gain their place in the Grand Final.
