This information has been sent out to all our club basketball contacts this week, ahead of Junior Finals – weekend tekau mā rima

19-20 August Duty Draw

  • End of the Season – If your team name is not listed on the draw, your season is now over! (There are three teams which will not play this weekend, but have qualified directly for their Grand Final. They are all listed on the draw)
  • Finals Week – Saturday August 19 is Junior Finals Day; Monday August 21 is the Lincoln University Thomson and Whelan Division II Finals Night; Tuesday August 22 is Division I Finals Night; and Saturday August 26 is Senior Finals Day. All of these events are free entry at Cowles Stadium, so we hope to see as many of you down to enjoy the atmosphere

  • MVP and First Team Awards – We have now announced all the Junior Team Winners. Presentations to the winners will happen at the respective Grade’s Grand Final (at halftime)

  • Hoben Trophy – Congratulations to Pioneer – finishing first in the regular season of the Miles Toyota Premier Men’s League means they received the Hoben Trophy Award
  • Four-way Tie! – The Patron Trophy Finalist spots went to UC and North Canterbury, who won the tiebreaker with the other two teams they were tied with. They will meet each other on August 26 (page 78 of the FIBA rules has the details if you are curious)

  • Hoops For All Charity – read this article now on our website detailing what this new charity has been set up to achieve, and what they can offer people in need of basketball equipment

  • Pouākai vs Kahu – 3pm at Cowles Stadium, Sunday 20 August, as our local team looks to continue adding more wins to their record. Buy your tickets here
