This tournament is proudly brought to you by a dedicated Steering Group, following a 2024 decision by BBNZ to discontinue their involvement in these events. In response, the Canterbury and Otago Basketball Associations, in collaboration with other South Island Basketball Associations, stepped up to lead the initiative and ensure the continuation of this important competition under the sanction of School Sport New Zealand. 

We are committed to ensuring this tournament remains a lasting fixture on the secondary school sports calendar for years to come. Our goal is to make it accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable for everyone who wishes to take part. 

The Steering Group is made up of representatives from the Canterbury and Otago Basketball Associations, a regional sporting director, and a representative from the host association.

Draw and Results

• 2026 SI Junior Secondary School Tournament Draw with Duty (the draw will be updated throughout the tournament as pool play finishes, and teams progress through their playoff brackets – please make sure to refresh the draw whenever loading to get the latest version)
• Discrepancies: the draw sent out by james@canterbury.basketball to team contacts is the official draw, and takes priority if there is a difference with GameDay team schedules

Times 

• Warm Up: minimum of 8 minutes 

• Playing Time: four 10-minute stop clock quarters 

• Half Time: three minutes 

• Quarter Time Intervals: one minute 

• Extra Periods: five minute stop clock (for each period needed, until a winner is found)

• Extra Period Intervals: One minute
