Waitaha Teams that will be competing at the BBNZ National Championships have now been named
The selection of the U15, U17 & U19 Waitaha Boy’s & Girl’s teams has been a difficult process with the depth of quality players. The representative coaches have done their best in assessing the players through trials, selection tournament & qualifying games.
With Waitaha qualifying two teams in every age group we have the opportunity to pick up loan players from Mid & South Canterbury. We try to follow the principle of ensuring the top 20 players from the Canterbury region get to go to Nationals as we think this is very important in ensuring all players throughout the Canterbury region have the opportunity to be selected for Nationals.
Rep team selection is not defining in the long term development of a player as we have seen players miss out on rep teams who have gone on to receive US College scholarships or play for a New Zealand National team. With this said well done to the players who have been selected and a word of encouragement for players who have missed out to take advantage of the opportunities through school, club & the Mainland development teams:
