Eastern Basketball has been set up as the junior arm of the successful Atami club, and has trials for Boys’ U13 Teams to play in the CBA competitions coming up
Eastern Basketball (anticipated to be known as as Ōrua Paeroa in the near future) will initially be focused primarily on strengthening a pathway for junior players who will move on to Shirley Boys’ High, with plans to expand into a similar relationship with Avonside Girls’ as soon as practicable.
The club proposes to enter three Boys’ U13 teams in CBA competitions in 2023. This competition plays on Saturday afternoons from May until August.
The CBA are supportive of this proposal, in the knowledge that the Cowles Chargers will no longer be operating. This fits with the CBA policy to develop a club on the Eastern side of the city, with the long-term aim to provide a pathway from junior basketball to senior basketball for males and females, and the club having strong links to High Schools in the area.
