As 2024 comes to an end, we reflect on our BNZ Kiwi Hoops in school deliveries
2024 saw the first year of Canterbury Basketball run as Approved Delivery Providers (ADP’s) of the BNZ Kiwi Hoops programs.
The accreditation status allows us to call our after-school program BNZ Kiwi Hoops, with hopes to align our primary competitions under the framework as well.
In addition to our after school sessions, we were lucky enough to visit three Christchurch schools and provide four weeks of basketball lessons for selected year levels through BNZ’s Hoops in Schools campaign.
First up we spent weeks 2-6 of Term Four at Hornby Primary. The great group of 100 kids from Years 3-6 thoroughly enjoyed these sessions and even got to be involved with a filming day back in Term Three where they met Tom Abercrombie and Brooke Ruscoe.
Next up our team headed to Paparoa Street School, where we got to enjoy four weeks out in the sun coaching another 100 Tamariki basketball. This group was just Year 3/4 and seeing the improvement over the weeks was awesome.
And lastly Halswell School and their 200 Year 3/4s were able to enjoy coaching in their gym. This school split their classes, with half of each class every second session. The end result was many of these kids keen to take on basketball in 2025!
All the kids across the three schools were great to coach and we look forward to seeing these future ballers out on the court.
