Seven of the nine Canterbury Knights Melbourne tour squad from earlier this year have been named for the match. The matchup will tip-off at 7pm, in the Middleton Grange School new gym, and admission to the game is completely free.
The Knights are led by inspirational Captain Marty Davison who has played in all Knights’ games since 2016 (21-7 record). The vice captains are sharpshooter Derek Albertsen and Canterbury Rams’ Center Brent Fisher. Zacc Dwan, Josh Petermann and Matt Mischewski round out the guard-line with Nick Erwood, Barclay Miller and Rams’ Development Player Kurt Feneon filling the forward spots. All players have been suiting up in the very competitive Miles Toyota Premier Men’s League and most are a part of the 3X3.EXE Southern Conference with their respective Canterbury club sides.
Otago University are venturing up to Christchurch to get some preparation in for the BILA University Tournament in Taiwan later this month. The side features former Otago Nuggets’ squad members Micah Lepaio and Darcy Knox and seven players from the 2018 UTSNZ National Championship winning side coached by Mitchell Langton. Samson Aruwa, Tai Porima-Flavell and Nathan Hanna will feature heavily, with all representing NZ in age group tournaments.
Missing from the Knights’ Melbourne squad for this game are Nathan Campbell, who is at Police College in Porirua, and Taylor Britt is unavailable due to Canterbury Rams’ commitments (who are closing in on the Sals’ NBL Final Four at Horncastle Arena, July 20-21.) Knights’ Dunedin tour representative and Rams’ Development guard Jack Exeter is unavailable due to injury.
