For all year 12 and 13 students aiming to advance in their coaching journey
Aiming to provide Year 12 or 13 students an opportunity to advance their coaching with support from experienced rep coaches, Canterbury Basketball Association’s (CBA) Junior Apprentice Coach Programme is an opportunity to learn from experienced mentors, gain hands-on coaching experience, and become a key part of our representative coaching pathway in the U16 Mainlands Programme.
Starting Sunday March 9th, apprentice coaches work within the Mainlands programme in build up to the March 29th blitz tournament where they will act as assistant coaches and again in June in build up to the 2025 Mainlands tournament. As an Apprentice Coach, you will:
✅ Work alongside experienced head and assistant coaches.
✅ Gain practical coaching experience in the U16 Mainlands programme.
✅ Develop leadership, communication, and people skills.
✅ Receive mentorship and support to prepare for future head or assistant coaching roles.
✅ Contribute to the growth and success of basketball in the community.
🔹 Assist in team trials—help organize, evaluate players, and learn the selection process.
🔹 Support practices—deliver drills, provide feedback, and mentor players under the support of the head coach.
🔹 Work closely with coaches and players to build a positive team culture.
🔹 Offer support and step up as head coach when needed.
🔹 Attend local tournaments to support team management and player development.

This “Apprentice then Apply” model ensures you get real experience before stepping into a coaching role. By the end of the programme, you’ll be prepared to lead as a head or assistant coach in the CBA pathway.
