Lori McDaniel has a slightly emotional diary as she farewells the “Wildcats’ Mobile”
The last few months have been very busy for me with overseas, national and local travel. As much as I would have loved to have the Miles Toyota Rav4 with me, some of the travel did not allow me to drive to my destinations!
Spending time with the Tall Ferns in India for the Women’s Asia Cup, and in Auckland for the Pre-Olympic Qualifiers, proved to be a fantastic learning experience for me. Sitting in on Tall Ferns training sessions, team meetings, and sitting on the bench for games allowed me to learn from the excellent coaching staff and athletes, and I am looking forward to putting all that new knowledge into both my own coaching, as well as my coach development courses in 2020.
Being involved with the Tall Ferns proved to be influential in my running of the Basketball New Zealand U15 Girls Camp in October in Auckland. I was able to implement drills, key points, and style of play aspects from Guy Malloy and his staff. This will hopefully allow our junior national players to have a clearer understanding of the expectations required at the Tall Ferns Level.
Locally, through the CBA, we were able to deliver multiple coach development courses around the city. These courses included introduction to coaching courses, student coach courses, and the BBNZ Community Course.
You may also have seen the Miles Toyota Wildcats vehicle at Middleton Grange, Rangi Ruru, Shirley/Avonside, Cowles Stadium, or ARA, where the WPP and Mainland Eagles sessions were taking place.
While I have greatly enjoyed and appreciated the Miles Toyota Wildcats vehicle for the past two seasons, and am going to miss it a lot, you should keep an eye out for our new 2020 Wildcats’ Coach, Dene Robinson, as he will now be driving around town in the Wildcats’ Mobile
Have a great Christmas and New Years everyone!!!!
