The Hagley College Girls take on Ashburton in the Division II Final of the LU Whelan Trophy Competition
#1 Seed Hagley College and #2 Ashburton College will meet for the third time this year. Ashcoll has only dropped one game all season (8-1), while Hagley (7-2) has had the stronger finish. Adding to the intrigue, both teams sport a 1-1 record against each other (Ashburton won the first matchup 60-39. Hagley the rubber match 66-50)
Will Smit (Head Coach, Hagley College) is looking forward to breaking the Grand Final Runner-Up streak: “It has been great to see all of the girls’ development over the past two years, but especially in our core group of senior students who have played together all through High School and kept Hagley competitive throughout the years.
“Our start of season goal was to be in this position, so hopefully we have learnt from our experience the last two years and take it all out this time around!”
Papanui was no match for Hagley in their semi-final, falling 72-38 to the #1 seed
