CBA acknowledges the following major referee award winners

At the Referee Prizegiving Function on Tuesday night, the following winners of Canterbury Basketball’s major referee awards for 2024 were announced:

Most Improved Junior Referee: Harmony Lloyd-Mann (centre of picture)

Harmony has refereed at least one game for each weekend of the CBA season up to and including Junior Finals Day, totaling 32 games across the season. She has displayed a calm consistency across the year and continues to show improvement and commitment to refereeing. Her season was capped off with the Dynasty Girls’ 16U final on Junior Finals Day. Congratulations to our 2024 Junior Most Improved Referee, Harmony Lloyd-Mann!

Most Valuable Junior Referee: Hunter Lethlean (on the right of the picture)

Hunter has refereed nearly 60 games across the Canterbury Basketball season (half of these on Tuesday nights, half on the weekends). He continues to grow in maturity, confidence and ability as a referee, having been given three finals at the local level. Hunter has also represented Canterbury well at tournament level, going to the U18 Nationals and the U16 Nationals, where he was awarded the Girls’ Final and recently refereed the Zone 4 Boys AA Premiership final as well. A worthy winner of the 2024 Junior Referee of the Year, congratulations to Hunter Lethlean!

Most Improved Senior Referee: Sophie Currie (second from the right)

Sophie has refereed 48 games across the CBA season and represented CBA at some major tournaments this year including being a part of the U20 Nationals in Rangiora. She refereed two finals for us during finals week (the LU Whelan Division One Grand Final, and the Miles Toyota Women’s Premier League Grand Final) and also helps with supervising referees. She also does a wonderful job training and developing referees out at Selwyn around their primary school competitions. Congratulations to Sophie on winning back-to-back senior most improved referee awards.

Most Valuable Senior Referee: Blake Rosanowski (right of picture)

Blake refereed 39 games across the CBA season around his commitments. There has been a level of growth and maturity in his refereeing over the last 12 months and we are grateful for the contribution he has made across this season. He was chosen to referee two finals across finals week (LU Thomson Division One, and the Miles Toyota Men’s Premier League Grand Final) and was also selected to referee the Women’s Final at the U20 Nationals. Blake has also become an NBL referee this year, a big congratulations to him, our 2024 Senior Referee of the Year.

Bruce Martin Award for Services to Refereeing: Raewyn Willocks

Also, at the Prizegiving, we acknowledged once again the winner of the Bruce Martin award – Raewyn Willocks

She has been involved as a referee in basketball for over 35 years. From 1998 to 2013, she refereed 240 NBL games and has been a key leader in Canterbury’s referee community, from the CBOA through to her role on the Referee Collective. Her commitment to the local scene, has seen her referee more than her fair share of games in our Premier, and High School, competitions and she is a key leadership voice amongst senior referee members, as well as being a voice for referees in our Disciplinary process. A Life Member for Canterbury Basketball, a referee and trainer, and dedicated to basketball, congratulations once again to the Bruce Martin Award winner, Raewyn Willocks!

A massive congratulations to all major referee award winners for the 2024 CBA season and onto next year.
