Day Two of the SI Junior HS Tournament is now done, with the half-way stage now passed, and the playoff picture getting clearer
The attention in the tournament now shifts to playoffs, with only the Boys’ B Grade still in pool play on Monday.
Monday sees the Boys’ A Grade have their Preliminary Finals at 9am on Monday, before the Girls’ A Grade Preliminary Finals tip-off.
Rebecca Moon is once again fulfilling the Technical Commissioner role in Christchurch, and is pretty happy with how the tournament is going:
“The South Island Junior Premierships aren’t just a fantastic opportunity for our young players — they’re also a great environment for developing the next generation of basketball officials.
Each school is required to bring referees to represent their school and supporting the games. They’re gaining valuable experience, building confidence and learning from every game, with plenty of support around them.
A huge shoutout also goes to our referee trainers Blake Rosanowski, Toni Smith-Hunwick, and Reagan Ashley, who are putting in some big shifts throughout the tournament. Their knowledge, time and willingness to work alongside our young officials is helping them grow and develop, both on and off the court.
It’s awesome to see experienced officials investing in the next generation and young referees embracing the opportunity to learn.”
