Coaches Connection Forum Term One 2023

The Coaches Connection Forum (CCF) is a weekly event for coaches of all abilities to connect with other coaches and learn about current best practices guidelines and models.

To encourage our community to have stronger connections, Coaches, and people looking to begin coaching, will have the opportunity to engage informally with others over food and drinks prior to the 60 min coaching demonstration.

Everyone from experienced rep coaches to the many parent and student coaches looking to up-skill are encouraged to attend. Register here!

There are two separate sessions that cover similar material but adjusted for the age and stage of the athlete. The first session is targeted at high schoolers looking to start or further their coaching journey. The second session is an adult learning environment for the novice parent coach, to the experienced coach, to learn and deepen their understand of the basics of coaching. When

Five successive Tuesdays from March 7th, until April 4th. Adults are not required to attend all sessions.

Session 1: Student Coaches:

Developing and supporting High School players to coach at the primary school level. Year 9 students will act as demonstration players. This model of recruiting and supporting high school players to coach primary school, whilst incentivising them with school credits and community service hours (for programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh).

330pm to 4pm: doors open for food and social

4pm to 5pm: coach development and demonstration practice with players

Session 2: Adult Coaches:

An adult learning environment for all adult coaches, from novice to advanced, to connect, support and share. Primary School Players will act as demonstration players.

5pm to 530pm: doors open for food and social

530pm to 630pm: coach development and demonstration practice with primary school players

What

The CCF is predominantly focused on developing new coaches; and providing connection and support to coaches. There are two sessions each week, the first for young high school coaches looking to learn the basics and connect with peers’ the second, an adult learning environment for all adult coaches from new parents The following four sessions will be taught ion conjunction with guest coach sessions.

Unit 1: Team values – introduction to setting team culture, establishing and encouraging training habits, creating environment for success, structuring trainings for improvement, buy in and enjoyment.

Unit 2:

  • High School Student Coaches assist and observe Trials with Dene Robinson
  • Adult Coaches run a demonstration trial and learn basic behavioural and team management.

Unit 3: Basic skills, drills and practice structure to teach fundamentals using prescriptive drills.

Unit 4: Using constraints based drills instead of prescriptive drills.

Unit 5: Guest Coach

Who?

Again, CCF is open to all coaches, particularly those new or novice to coaching. It is a great opportunity to a strong support network in the coaching scene and to learn.

The CCF is headed by Canterbury Basketball Associations Head of Pathways and Community Development Benjamin Constable, and supported by trained coach developers and experienced coaches.
