COVID-19 Statement #5

We update our members after receiving detailing of what sporting activities will be permissible at level two

With Sport NZ‘s release today of detailed guidelines for a return to play for sports in level two, we wanted to update you all on the next steps for us:

  • BBNZ will provide advice on the practical steps we need to take to return to play after having some time to interpret the Sport NZ document (or confirm that the proposed steps we would implement are suitable)
  • CBA to share this document with each club/school for their feedback, before making it public for all individual members to see
  • Potential dates for BBNZ tournaments and competitions are identified

The full Sport NZ document can be seen here.

Of a more practical nature, the following questions also need to be answered:

  • Each venue we would use for competition being ready for external hirers on the proposed starting date
  • Altered club calendar for weeks of competition created and shared with clubs/schools which takes into account venue availability, and any dates that present issues for us

A reminder – with the exception of the Midweek competitions (that can start up sooner) we wanted to give clubs and schools around three weeks of time in order for them to:

  • run any trials for teams they may still/now need to do so for
  • contact their members
  • begin team practices

Of course we currently remain at Alert Level Three in New Zealand, so all of the above is moot until such time as we know when we are moving move to Alert Level Two.

At this stage we wanted to assure all of our members that we will have a plan communicated as quickly as possible, once we have all the relevant information.
