Macca’s Week Two Update

Not a great week in terms of our picks – but we’re trying again this week (plus letting you know where all the teams are playing!)

The second round of our McDonald’s Thomson and Whelan Competitions are now in action, and our picks were very good on the boys’ side, with only the St. Thomas Saints ruining our picks. It was much tougher on the girls’ side of the competition, with our picks only coming in at a 50% clip. Rangi Ruru has already got their first check in the win column, dispatching St. Margaret’s 81-39 on Monday.

This Tuesday (14 May) we have a few schools hosting double headers with both Whelan and Thomson teams in action (5:15pm and 7:00pm respectively, unless noted otherwise):

  • Middleton Grange is allowing the Hornby Girls to host Burnside, with the gators then playing against Burnside
  • Ashburton College is hosting (in the Oxford Street gym) Rangiora High – with the boys tipping off before the girls here
  • Riccarton High’s two teams face off against Lincoln High
  • St. Andrew’s College will have the Middleton Grange Gators, and then Shirley Boys’ Spartans playing in the later time slot

In Whelan Trophy Action, you can head to the following schools at 5:15pm

  • Christchurch Girls’ High to see them play against Avonside – with both teams looking for their first win of the competition
  • Ellesmere College will be visited by the Cashmere Girls
  • Villa Maria has Papanui High trekking over

There is also Thomson Trophy action at these schools (all at 7:00pm unless noted)

  • St. Thomas at Hillmorton (6pm tip)
  • Papanui at Cathedral College (“The Oscar Hooper Classic”)
  • Cashmere will head to Christchurch Boys’ High
  • St. Bede’s at Christ’s College
  • Newcomers Hagley High is hosting Hornby High
  • Kaiapoi High will be visited by Te Pā Rākaihautū
