Miles Toyota February ’20 Diary

Rebecca and Marty headed over to the West Coast to run three referee clinics in Hokitika, Greymouth and Westport.

The trusty Miles Toyota Rav4 was once again great for the long drive, with adaptive cruise-control being one of our most loved features for the trip.

Hokitika have a fantastic new facility and have upgraded their gym and had a turnout of 11 keen referees, both young and old. We then headed on to Greymouth for the afternoon where we had 29 attend, from young referees that do mini ball all the way up to senior men’s games. Sunday saw us in Westport where we had 16 and again a really good mix of new and current referees.

The clinic that we ran was a good mix of beginner rules and violations all the way up to talking about legal defence, screening and the no charge semi-circle. We also covered player and coach management, areas of responsibility on the court and how to do the correct signals to the score bench.

Overall a great weekend away and we would like to thanks the three associations for inviting us to come over and help their referees pick up some new knowledge they can use with their refereeing in the future.
