Referee Managers Appointed

We are very pleased to announce the two new referee Managers who will be joining our team

Please join us in welcoming our two new Referee Managers who are joining our team!

The Canterbury Basketball Association is pleased to announce the appointment of our two Referee Managers starting this season.

Marty Davison is well known to all of us as a player, coach, first class referee, and stalwart of Canterbury Basketball. He has been refereeing for over 15 years, beginning as a Junior Basketball Referee at Pioneer Stadium. Since then, he has been selected to officiate in tournaments in three separate continents (and has played on a fourth!), is currently on the NZNBL referee panel, and is involved in the officiating of local ANBL matches.

Marty will be in charge of Club referee recruiting, training, mentoring, and appointing. In addition to this, he will also be acting as a Regional Referee Trainer, and will hold clinics for referees throughout South Island Associations.

Sasha Nicholson has been appointed to a part time position, as our Junior Referee Trainer. She will be responsible for working with the junior referees in both the CBA, and Tier One Junior Club competitions throughout greater Christchurch. Sasha hails originally from Gore, and has spent the last couple of years as a referee trainer in Dunedin while she completed her tertiary studies at the University of Otago. Sasha is currently on the WBC Panel, and has refereed in our Premier competitions in Christchurch during her varsity holidays.

The CBA has a strategic focus on increasing both the number and standard of the referees in Canterbury, and we look forward to seeing the opportunities for referee training and development grow in the short to medium term.

We warmly welcome Marty and Sasha to the team at CBA, and believe that the whole basketball community will benefit from their efforts.
