Canterbury U16 Teams Playing for Gold Today at the U16 Footlocker Nationals in Wellington
Canterbury Basketball will be proudly represented in today’s U16 National Championship Finals in Wellington, with both our Boys and Girls A teams set to battle it out for national titles.
The U16 Girls A team take the court at 2:45 PM, looking to cap off a phenomenal week with a championship win. They’ve impressed all tournament long with their unity, grit, and up-tempo play. Coached by Dilshan Muthunaidelage, Jamie Day, and Alicia Davis, this talented squad features:
Taylah Davis, Sophie Schouten, Shaye Edwards, Savannah Watkinson, Piper Eradus, Maniah Taefu, Maiyah Lavea-Martin, Isabella Day, Hayley Stowell, and Flo Paulo.
Following them, the U16 Boys A team will tip off at 4:30 PM, ready for a final showdown after a dominant run through the tournament. With Dave Langrell at the helm, assisted by Ethan Weston and Craig Weston, this team has been relentless on both ends of the floor.
Some say they’ve played like dogs, others like lions, either way we’re proud of Mataio Ifopo-Togia, Lydian Thompson, Levi Vincent, Levi Weston, Leonidas Swainson, Hugo Howes, Finn Kennett-Ditfort, Finn Langrell, Benjamin Habinshuti, and Archie Leo Limu Franklin.

Meanwhile, our U16 Boys B team deserves huge credit after a fantastic week where they reached the quarterfinals and pushed both our A team and host Wellington to the limit. They’ll play off for 7th/8th place today, with a roster that includes:
Noa Smith, Mikaere Bear Hauraki-Deacon, Lewis Cooke, Koupa Cunninghame, Jamie Hunt, Jaejae Greene, Jack Wilkins, Izaac O’Connor, Eli Lissaman, and Calvary Maniapoto, led by Tom Hughes and Joshua Shannahan.
The U16 Girls B team will wrap up their campaign today in the 11th/12th place playoff. Coached by Holly Parish, Annette Hynes, and Florencia Zepeda, and managed by Pina Lissaman, this group has shown heart and growth throughout the tournament:
Zara Kleindyk, Sophia Palaamo, Sienna Stevenson, Renae Fualau-Searle, Lily Wheeler, Kaiah Helsham, Isabella Lennane-Henry, Holly Radford, Alyssa Clarkson, and Shayla Tarawa.
