We break down what each team that can qualify for our basketball playoffs needs to have happen

PLAYOFF QUALIFICATIONS (Teams that will play on August 20/21)

Any teams that are not listed will conclude their season on August 13/14. This also assumes that no teams have a forfeit loss in any games they are scheduled for, which could impact which teams qualify.

A reminder – these have not been independently verified, so there is the possibility of mistakes. To calculate the scenarios yourself, please see the official tie-breaker procedures in the Official FIBA Rules (Classification of teams – page 78)

 

Miles Toyota Men’s Premier League:

  • Pioneer, Atami and Gators have all qualified for the Semi-Finals
  • The winner of LU and Checkers will claim the fourth Playoff spot

Miles Toyota Women’s Premier League:

  • Checkers, Halswell and North Canterbury have all qualified for the Semi-Finals
  • If LU beats North Canterbury, they qualify
  • If North Canterbury beats LU, Atami will qualify

Men’s Division One:

  • The North Canterbury Bears and Pioneer Blue have qualified from their pool
  • If Gators Green wins:
    • Warthogs beat Atami CdB, Gators Green will qualify with Warthogs
    • Atami CdB beats Warthogs by 1-12 points, Atami and Warthogs qualify
    • Atami CdB beats Warthogs by 13+ points, Gators Green will qualify with Atami
  • If Gators Green loses, Atami CdB and the Warthogs both qualify

Women’s Division One:

  • Halswell Red and Checkers have qualified
  • Halswell Green and UC Maroon both qualify with a win
  • North Canterbury will qualify with a win if UC Maroon lose
    • If Halswell Green win, they qualify as well
    • If Halswell Green lose, they will be eliminated

Men’s U23 A (this was the most complicated by far, and we have left some scenarios out where teams can still qualify with a loss)

  • Atari and Gators Green have qualified
  • The winner of LU/Checkers qualifies
  • Pioneer Blue Qualify with a win
    • and a loss by UC
  • UC A qualify with a win and
    • both Pioneer Blue and Checkers lose
    • or Pioneer loses and Checkers wins by 29+ points

Men’s U23 Plate

  • Checkers Taitamariki are in the Plate Final (playing on 20 August)
  • The winner of Wolverines/Pioneer-Cashmere will play them

Men’s U23 Development

  • The loser of Pioneer Yellow vs Gators White is eliminated

Men’s U20 A

  • North Canterbury Maroon; St. Bede’s Checkers; Gators Grey; Checkers Redbacks have all qualified

Men’s U20 Middle

  • Rolleston Hawks; Selwyn Hawks; Papanui Checkers; Pioneer-Cashmere Maroon have all qualified

Men’s U20 Development

  • North Canterbury Black and Gators White have qualified
  • Checkers Synergiers qualify with a loss by UC-Christ’s and/or UC-CBHS
  • UC-Christ’s qualifies with a win, or a loss by UC-CBHS
  • UC-CBHS qualifies with a win

Pizza Republic Boys’ U17

  • The winners of Shirley/Riccarton and Rangiora/St. Thomas will play in the Grand Final (on August 20)

Pizza Republic Girls’ U16

  • North Canterbury Black and Checkers will play in the Grand Final (on August 20)

Pizza Republic Boys’ U15

  • The winners of STC Thunder/Rangiora and Kaiaipoi/Shirley will play in the Grand Final (on August 20)

Pizza Republic Boys’ U13

  • The winners of Gators Grey/Horomaka Gators and Selwyn Hawks A/North Canterbury Tiger will play in the Grand Final (on August 20)

Pizza Republic Girls’ U13

  • The winners of Halswell/Gators and North Canterbury White/Pioneer will play in the Grand Final (on August 20)
