GM Announces Retirement Plans

Clive Beaumont shares that this is going to be his final season with the Canterbury Basketball Association

The following is an edited excerpt from Clive Beaumont’s Speech at our 2025 AGM

Across participation, development, structure, and business operations — we have made solid progress.
We have exceeded several targets. We have fallen short in others. But most importantly, we have built a stronger foundation and clearer understanding of the work that still lies ahead.

We know that true progress isn’t just about hitting targets — it’s about moving together in the right direction.

I would like to sincerely thank the Board, our clubs, our volunteers, staff, and of course, our Basketball Community.

My thanks go to all of you out there in the Basketball Community. With such committed people involved in our Sport I am content in the knowledge that, despite the odd disagreement, the Sport of Basketball in Canterbury is as strong, if not stronger, than anywhere else in the country, and I am grateful for your input to ensure this continues. I am confident that we will continue to grow basketball, and strengthen our communities through it.

Whilst I thoroughly enjoy my job, and have to say I am a convert to basketball as the best recreational sport in the country, it is time to retire. The CBA Board have been made aware of this – and I believe strongly that members be made aware before the process to find my successor commences, but at the end of the year I will step down, and see where life takes me.

So, it’s a sincere thanks to all who have worked with me and to all our members – it has been an honour and privilege to lead this organisation for the past six years.

I’ll see you all during the season, and I will be around until the end of the year, but then it will be time to pass the baton on.
