In 2024, we will be assigning Referee Supervisors to help support our newest basketball referees

Referee Supervisors are primarily responsible for helping create a safe environment for developing referees to officiate their assigned games to the best of their ability. They will be overseeing referees at various locations for Canterbury Basketball’s Sub 17 & Under grades and below on the weekends during our Club Ball season and offering support to the referees through ensuring the game is being officiated consistently, giving advice and troubleshooting issues concerning disruptive behaviour.

2024 Referee Supervisors will be contracted to provide this service at the rate of $23.15 per hour

The specific duties of a referee supervisor includes:

Wear your referee supervisor vest, so you are easily identifiable throughout your shift
Where possible, introduce yourself to referees before each game begins
Have a solid knowledge and understanding of basketball and how it is refereed
Act as a supervisor/trainer to the referees, if a trainer isn’t present
Assist the Floor Controller in resolving conflict
Help protect any younger referees by dealing with Coach and/or spectator behaviour, in accordance with CBA policy
Help referees complete any reports
At the end of the day’s final game, ensuring your name and hours are recorded on the Floor Controller’s sheet
