2024 Pre-Season Lincoln University Thomson and Whelan Rankings

The Lincoln University Thomson and Whelan trophies return for another year. Here’s where our committees see the team rankings pre-season.

Our 2024 Pre Season rankings have now been confirmed through our ranking committees.

Our Thomson number one pick was unanimous, while the other spots were a little more challenging to determine.

Lincoln University Pre-Season Thomson Rankings

  6. Shirley Boys High School
  7. St Bede’s College

Again, our top spot for Whelan was unanimous, while results of the pre-season tournament saw second and third highly contested.

Our format for the 2024 Thomson competition will see a round of pool play in pools of 4 teams (one pool of 3), before splitting into Top 8 and bottom 7. Once the split is made another round robin will be played before heading into playoffs. Results from the first round of pool play will carry over, only for the opponent from the same pool.

Our Whelan competition will play a double round robin before heading to the playoff rounds and finals.

Our finals night will be held at Cowles Stadium on 27th August.

Our Division Two Thomson competition has 8 teams competing from various corners of Canterbury.

The teams competing for glory in Division Two are:

  • Catholic Catherdal College
  • Papanui High School
  • Rangiora New Life School
  • Oxford Area School

 

Our Division Two Whelan competition has 10 teams battling it out.

  • Burnside High School/ Papanui High School Combined
  • Hagley Community College
  • Villa Maria College
  • Rangi Ruru School
  • Avonside Girls High School

Both Division Two Competitions will run with a single round robin, followed by quarter finals, semi-finals and a finals night on Monday 26th August at Cowles Stadium.
