Whether you’re coaching school teams, supporting club teams, or just curious about how to get involved — this course is a perfect place to start.
Canterbury Basketball is proud to host Coaching Girls: A Beginner Coaches Course — a free, in-person workshop designed to equip new and aspiring coaches with the skills and confidence to lead in the girls’ basketball space.
Taking place on Wednesday 11th June from 6:30–8:00pm, this course is perfect for anyone stepping into coaching for the first time or looking to make a bigger impact courtside. Held upstairs at the Canterbury Basketball Offices next to Cowles Stadium, the evening promises practical guidance, uplifting kōrero, and light refreshments to keep the energy flowing.

“We know that coaching may feel intimidating at first,” says Ty Scott, Development Officer at Canterbury Basketball. “This course is all about connection and confidence — using basketball as a powerful tool to educate, activate, and empower girls, both on and off the court.”
Participants will be introduced to the CoachMate app, learn foundational coaching skills, and explore what it means to coach with a focus on inclusion, leadership, and creating positive environments for young wāhine.
