Canterbury Basketball Association’s 2026 U14 Regional Development Programme is now open for registration.

The purpose of the CBA U14 programme is to foster a love of basketball through participation, development, and competitive experiences appropriate to each player’s age and stage.

As the programme is focused on participation and development, all players registering for trials will be selected into one of three programmes:

  • the 3X3 Development Programme,
  • the 4X4 Development Programme (boys only), or
  • the 5V5 Regional Development Programme (RDP) travelling to the BBNZ South Island Regional Tournament in Otago from October 7–10.

Players must commit to participating in whichever programme they are selected for if they wish to register for trials.

All programmes begin with two trial/practice sessions at Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre on Sunday August 16th and Sunday August 23rd. These are less like traditional trials and more like preliminary practices where players will be introduced to key concepts and sorted into age and stage appropriate groups.

Because all players make a programme, all players will be charged $125 on registration. This covers the full cost of the 4X4 or 3X3 development programmes (excluding optional clothing). Players selected into the 5V5 Regional Development Programme travelling to Otago will be invoiced an additional $740.

If you do not wish to be considered for the 5V5 programme, please email zach@canterbury.basketball prior to trials.

Please ensure you read all programme information prior to registering, as we expect players to commit fully to the programme. Given the age and stage of players, this may be the first programme where players are held to high standards of attendance, communication, and commitment.

Registrations close at midday, Wednesday 5th August.

For parents! Keen to give coaching a go? We are again running a no-cost coach development programme to help upskill coaches with 0-2 years coaching experience. Find all the information here, and expression of interest form here.
